Atwima Kwanwoma Marks World AIDS Day at Trede, DCE and Regional AIDS Commission Director Lead Call for Prevention and Support
The Atwima Kwanwoma District on Monday, December 1, 2025, marked the 2025 World AIDS Day with a community durbar at Trede, bringing together stakeholders, traditional leaders, students and health professionals to intensify education on HIV prevention, testing and treatment.

The event was graced by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, and the Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Ms. Olivia Graham, who both underscored the importance of community involvement in reducing new infections and eliminating stigma.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Graham noted that while Ghana continues to make progress in HIV response, “there is still the urgent need for regular testing, early treatment and stronger public awareness, especially among young people”. She called on residents of Trede and the entire district to take advantage of available health services to know their status.
Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to supporting health education campaigns, adding that World AIDS Day serves as a reminder for all citizens to show compassion toward persons living with HIV. She urged parents, teachers and community influencers to play active role in sustaining advocacy at the local level.
The program was chaired by Nana Kofi Boadi, Dwantuahene of Trede, who represented the Tredehene, Nana Nuben Sra III. He commended the Assembly and the Ghana AIDS Commission for choosing Trede for this year’s observance and encouraged the youth to prioritize responsible lifestyles and regular screening.
Health officials from the district used the opportunity to offer free HIV testing, counselling and education on preventive measures.
Participants also took part in solidarity activities to honour individuals living HIV and remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS-related conditions.
This year’s World AIDS Day was commemorated under the national theme, “Let Communities Lead”. The observance highlighted the critical role of community leadership in accelerating Ghana’s journey toward ending AIDS as a public health threat.
