DCE ASSESSES STORM DAMAGE AT NWENESO No. 3 R/C Basic School

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has visited the Nweneso No. 3 community to assess the extent of damage caused by a rainstorm that ripped off the roof of the Roman Catholic (R/C) Basic School on Wednesday, 4th February 2026, around 4:30 p.m., after school hours.

The storm completely stripped the roof of two classroom blocks, with the roofing sheets being blown onto a nearby residential building, also destroying the roof of the house. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded during the incident.
Addressing the school authorities and community members, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah expressed sympathy with the affected households and pupils, assuring them of the Assembly’s commitment to restore the damaged structures.
“We are grateful that no life was lost. Education is very important to this Assembly, and we will not allow this situation to disrupt teaching and learning for long,” she stated.
The DCE assured the affected household of immediate support and pledged to provide packets of roofing sheets to help the family re-roof their damaged house.
“The roofing sheets from the school caused damage to your house, and the Assembly will support you with roofing sheets to reboot your building,” she assured.
She further urged teachers and school authorities to manage the situation temporarily while the Assembly mobilises resources for renovation works.
“For now, I urge the teachers to manage the situation. The Assembly will take care of this challenge and renovate the classroom block as soon as possible. Pupils should not hesitate to come to school but rather take advantage of this situation and study hard,” she encouraged.
Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah also directed the District Engineer, Mr. Bartholomew Amponsah, to conduct an assessment of the damage to facilitate immediate renovation works.
“Mr. Engineer, I want you to assess the cost of the damage immediately so that renovation works can commence without delay,” she instructed.
The Headteacher of the school, Mr. Kwabena Simon, appealed to the Assembly to fast-track intervention to restore the classrooms, especially for Kindergarten pupils.
“We are appealing to the Assembly to act quickly so that our KG pupils can return to their classrooms. For now, we have merged some classes to create space for KG 1 and KG 2 pupils,” he said.
The Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Anthony Kwame Nsiah, also assured the community of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing the situation.
“The Assembly is committed to fulfilling its promises. We will ensure that all affected buildings are renovated as quickly as possible,” he assured residents.
The visit formed part of the Assembly’s rapid response to disasters to ensure the safety of pupils and the continuity of effective teaching and learning in the district.
